Captain’s Update May 2026

Captain

Hello everyoneI would first like to extend a warm welcome to our new members so far in 2026:

Humaide Almansouri, Oscar Altenberg, Zach Barbeau, Jean-Francois Barth, Stephen Blyth, Luc Crauwels, George Cunningham, James Davis, Alain Grillaert, Brit Helle, Daryl Hitchcock, Adam Isaacs, Hee-Jae Lim, Dae Young Park, Laurent Puissant, Catherine Quievy, Luc Simon, Alexander Winter and more recently others have indicated their interest in joining ; so IGC Membership is in a healthy condition. It seems we are enjoying some nice weather to start our Summer season which this year includes our usual favourite courses plus some we haven’t been to recently or indeed for several years. Watch out for some special deals offered by the Committee on some of these courses as we want to bump up numbers and encourage a good turnout. Kempense benefited from such a deal just recently and we saw a great response with 20 players taking part.

Winter CupThe final round of the WC was played at Rigenee on 29th March. In total we had 65 players participate with 19 completing the minimum 6 rounds to be in the running. Despite leading for much of the Winter, Petri Japola was overhauled in the final 4 rounds by a strong and impressive run of scores by Johnny Nordahl. Congratulations to Johnny, Petri and Stuart Hunter who was one point behind Petri and well done to all those who took part.

Summer CupThe SC is now up and running. Same format as last year with best 8 rounds to count. This started at L’Empereur on 11th April and runs through until the final at The National on 31st October. After 3 rounds our early leader is Andreas Pauckstadt, but it’s already very close. Still a long Summer ahead of us though and 8 qualifying rounds are needed to be in the running to win.

New gross stableford summer competitionAs announced in my last update this will run virtually alongside the normal SC using the scores from each fixture and scoring stableford without handicaps taken into account. Our early leader is Tuomas Pernu. You don’t have to do anything differently on the day. For each round your gross stableford score will be updated on a spreadsheet on our Website just like for the other competitions. There will be no weekly prizes, these are only for our normal Summer Cup. At the end of the Summer, voucher prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions. It just adds another level of interest for players and smooths out the ability for very high 40+ scores to impact the final results.
You can take a look at the gross stableford scores right now for each played round in I-Golf by going to the results and scores for the day, clicking on ‘selection’ at the top of the screen, then on ‘Bruto’. Th

is will show you the ranking by order of best gross stableford score.

IGC Matchplay Competition

We had a terrific response to a call for sign-ups with 36 entries before closing on 18th April. The draw was made after the game at Hulencourt on 19th April and can be found here along with the rules:

https://igc.golf/clubhouse/igc-matchplay-2026/

But as a reminder : Check out Who you need to play and by When, and please respect the dates to keep the competition moving. The initiative to propose the time and place is for the name shown at the top of each pairing. You should be able to find the GSM number of your opponent via the list of members on our WhatsApp IGC Announcements Group (if not, ask the Committee). The Preliminary Round should be completed by 14th May and the First Round by 14th June. You can play at any time of the week, it doesn’t have to be at an IGC fixture. If you do play at an IGC day, you will not be in the competition scores for that day, only NTPs, nor will your scores count for handicap purposes. Report your results to me or any member of the committee. Good luck!

Summer Stroke Play – Royal TrophyThis year we will have a new competition which evolves from the old Royal Trophy competition into something we hope more can and will take part in. So far we have had 2 rounds with participation levels high and the early leader is Johnny Nordahl. There are 13+ fixtures in our calendar through the Summer for this competition across a variety of courses and the best 5 rounds will count for the Cup. Scores are net of handicap and don’t worry if you have a bad day, I-Golf always uses stableford to calculate the WHS handicap adjustment. So playing stroke play will not affect your handicap any more than a Summer Cup round.

IGC Match vs The NationalThe match took place at The National on 4th April. It was 16 vs 16 in individual matches (but with 3 IGC playing for National). There were no Halved Matches and all came down to the last match where our super senior semi-injured hero Tommy Smith clinched the last point to make it 8 points each. Overall Match was therefore All Square but IGC RETAIN the Trophy.  🏆🥳

IGC Match vs NATO

Our annual 4BBB match is coming up on 9th May against NATO at The National. Sign ups are open (as they are for all our Summer games), so if you want to play get your name on the list. Green fees will be subsidised to €35 by IGC and you will need an IGC red polo shirt if you don’t already have one. Speak to Adrian Cunningham if you need this or any other item of clothing.

Stay & Play Koln/Cologne (28th to 31st May)You will have seen the details on the website. We have 4 spaces still available as we have had some unavoidable cancellations. It would be great to see some of our new members signing up. I guarantee you will have fun and we are playing some great courses. All details can be found on our website under “Events” or just message me if you are interested. For those signed up, full payment is now requested. An email will be going out to those taking part as a reminder. To pay you can use your vouchers (go to “Merchandise” area in our Website), or make a bank transfer to the IGC subs account (not the green fee account please).

AFG Competitions

The IGC & MUGS combined Seniors team is still competing in the Challenge de Printemps and although results have not gone our way this year, it has still been an enjoyable experience.

On 25th April, IGC had its Challenge de Francophonie Qualifying Day and those Winners that qualified for the Final in August were Category 1 Petri Japloa and Category 2 Mike Machell-Cox and AFG free merchandise was distributed on the day.IGC Logo Caps and TowelsWe are in the process of having IGC logo towels and IGC logo Titleist caps delivered and they should be available for sale in early May. The caps will be priced at €30 and the towels at €15. Watch out for an announcement on our WhatsApp group.
