Captains Weekly Update 2 September

Hello all,

Well, what a weekend just passed.  Weather conditions and the course were very good at L’Empereur on Saturday resulting in some very impressive scoring.  Jed Royal made the early running in the first group but an impressive 40 points saw him come in only third with Alexandre Mattosian losing on count back to Alvaro Lopez on 41 points.

There was an impressive turnout registered for the first visit to Hulencourt since its redesign work.  Morning conditions were very nice but true to the forecast the clouds rolled in and the heavens opened up as our first group was about to tee off at 1400.  The rain washed out one of the one matchplay games and meant the other tied game will have to do it all over again.  For those who persevered Ross Hood showed his Scottish roots and managed to shoot 31 points in the conditions.  Not bad, but bettered by Bernard Donck with 34 points in second place, well behind Ronnie O’Connell who took first place with a fine 38 points.  The good news is that you won’t have to wait long for another opportunity to play Hulencourt as we are due back on Saturday 12th for the September monthly medal.

As I said in my last update we enter a very busy month with the final of the Summer Cup due at Enghien on Saturday 19th.  It has been a long and exciting competition this year despite the covid restrictions and I am very pleased to see so many of you have completed the required number of qualifying cards.   David Collins maintains a healthy lead of 7 points from Per Aidemark and Roberto Ghidini but there are several players still in with a chance to make a late surge for the title, the trophy, the champagne and the winning voucher.  As a last minute bonus the rounds at Royal Limburg on Sat 5th and Royal Hainaut on Sun 6th which are for the Royal trophy will also be counted towards the Summer Cup.  I hope the extra incentive encourages additional registrations for both events.

All the September events are loaded onto I-golf so please try and sign up early for the events – it really does help with planning and organisation.  Especially with the club championships at the end of the month.  Don’t forget – Rigenee on Sat 26th and Pierpont on Sunday 27th

I look forward to seeing you on the tee soon.
