Captains Weekly update 25 August

Following the club’s success in the match against the National – well done to all who took part – we returned to normal business with visits to Enghien on Sat 22 Aug and a much anticipated return to Durbuy on Sunday 23 Aug.

Enghien is always an enjoyable, tough and challenging course and so it proved to be in a stiff wind for a monthly medal strokeplay.  Some of the holes were at least a 3 club difference in the wind and the challenging closing hole derailed what to then had been good rounds for some. The qualifiers for the monthly medal final were Per Aidemark, Stuart Hunter, Ross Hood and yours truly who edged out Ross on count back on the day to win the event.     A smaller group renewed acquaintances with Durbuy with Roberto Ghidini recording a significant improvement in his summer cup total.

Looking ahead to the weekend coming we have visits to L’Empereur on Saturday 29th and after a prolonged absence we get to renew our visits to Hulencourt on Sunday 30th August after its redevelopment. I have played it a couple of times recently and while golf preferences are always personal I really like what they have done and think you will too.

Looking slightly further ahead all fixtures for September are now available on I-golf and we undoubtedly enter the business end of the season with the final of the summer cup coming up in a few weeks at Enghien and the highlight of the golfing calendar being the club championships at Rigenee and Pierpont on 26-27 September.   Watch out for a separate mail with more details on the club championships in the next few days.

On a final note for those still participating in the 2020 matchplay competition please make sure you complete the next round of matches by the deadline of 6 September as advertised.

I look forward to seeing you on the course soon,

Barry McAlpine
