Weekly Update 13 July

Another great weekend’s golf just past at Riginee and the first inter-club match of the year at Royal Waterloo (see separate match report).  At Rigenee there were fine first round wins in the matchplay competition for Tommy Smith (beginning a successful defence of his crown), Gregg Hawson and David Winter – good luck to them in the next round.  For those still to play first round matches in the matchplay competition please remember the deadline is the beginning of August.

On the day at Riginee, Roberto Gihidini took the first prize on countback from Johnny Nordahl with Alastair Fyfe in third place.  Nearest the pin winners on the day were Dave Collins on the 16th and your captain Barry McAlpine on the 18th proving the adage that it doesn’t matter what club you use it is NTP that wins…..(although it has to be said that few on the day would have even considered using a 4-iron on the 18th).

Looking ahead to the weekend coming we will be visiting Spiegelven and we will have the first monthly medal at La Tournette (the American course).  Plenty of space left at both venues so I encourage you to sign up and maintain the healthy turnouts we have had since our golfing calendar resumed.

I would like to give an early heads up to the “coast weekend” we have at the end of July where we will play for the Royal Trophy – a prestigious IGC major competition – which we will playing in a revised consolidated format this year at Royal Zoute and Royal Ostend.  These are fine courses in their right but the winner of the weekend will take away a fine trophy and a winners voucher prize too.  It would be great if we had your support so please if you are around then sign up and maybe even you can make a weekend away of it.

Finally let me publicise the “Committee Day” at Rigenee on 1 August – more details to follow.  And two more inter-club matches at Falnuee on 15th August and at The National on 16th August.  Again more details to follow.  All fixtures and matches up to the end of August are now loaded onto I-golf so sign up soon.
