IGC versus Pierpont

IGC versus Pierpont
Sunday 15 April 2018

Well….
Any piece that begins that way is worth carrying on reading.
IGC took a 26-strong team to defend the trophy we won last year in the inaugural match against Pierpont.  The weather was great, the condition of the course very good and our hosts treated us in the manner that we have become accustomed to at this, one of IGC’s favourite and most popular venues.

The format was 4BBB matchplay.  Out first was your captain and John Musunga who dovetailed very well to fight back to half the match against a strong opening pair from Pierpont which included a very young 4 handicapper.  After that, well, the flood gates opened as IGC romped away to a thumping victory.  You can see the smiling victorious pairs in the IGC photo album.

In summary, IGC only lost 1 of the 13 matches but I will not name the unfortunate pair to spare them their blushes.

The only blemish on an otherwise excellent day was that our own Arthur Thompson unfortunately fell ill on the first hole – let me say there is no truth in the rumour that his illness was brought on by his playing partner, Mark Adams, leaving him a pressurised 6 foot putt on the opening hole.  A big thanks to the staff at Pierpont for the excellent care they provided and I am glad to say that Arthur is on the mend – lets hope to see him on the course again soon.

Well played to all which showed the strength of our club.  Lets keep up the strong showing over the rest of the golfing calendar.  Further club matches to come including against Royal Waterloo in the summer – more details to follow in due course.
